《Hokusai & Ukiyo-e》Themed Exhibition
2D Restaurant x CCMA

The《Hokusai & Ukiyo-e》themed exhibition, presented by 2D Restaurant in collaboration with CCMA, will take place in the summer of 2025 at the Cleve Carney Museum of Art in Chicago. Featuring black-and-white 2D-style murals created by designers from FIPEA, the exhibition highlights four beloved themes. Through recreated scenes, immersive experiences, and interactive activities, visitors are taken on a journey that bridges Eastern classics with childhood memories.
Dragon Ball | Budokai Tenkaichi
Dragon Ball holds an iconic place in the history of Japanese manga, and for many born in the 1970s and 1980s, it remains a cherished childhood memory. This exhibition recreates the legendary “World Martial Arts Tournament” arena, making it feel as if Goku and King Piccolo might leap into battle at any moment. The specially crafted stage features intentional damage marks, evoking the aftermath of fierce combat and faithfully capturing the classic scenes from the manga. Does it awaken that fiery passion in your heart once again?

Ukiyo-e | Wonders Amid the Waves
Ukiyo-e is a woodblock print art form that emerged during Japan's Edo period, known for its vivid depictions of everyday life, famous landscapes, and theatrical scenes. It is characterized by bold compositions and a distinct, recognizable style.
One of the most renowned artists of Ukiyo-e is Katsushika Hokusai, whose masterpiece "The Great Wave off Kanagawa" from the "Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji" series has profoundly influenced the global art world.
This exhibition pays tribute to that legacy — the scene depicts a lone canoe tossed by towering waves, as a sea creature quietly emerges beneath. Tension and tranquility intertwine through every brushstroke, transporting viewers into a fantastical vision of the 17th century.

Demon Slayer | The Infinity Castle Maze
As one of the most iconic manga of recent years, "Demon Slayer" has taken the world by storm with its profound portrayal of human emotions, stunning artwork, and tightly woven storyline. Not only did it break box office records in Japan, but it also reintroduced the world to the beauty of Japanese narrative aesthetics — a rich blend of tradition and emotion.
This exhibition recreates the iconic setting of the "Infinity Castle" — a labyrinth of overlapping spaces and endlessly rotating floors that evoke a suffocating sense of oppression and confusion. Standing at the center of the scene, you too may feel trapped within this endless illusion, prompting the question: How do I escape from here?

Doraemon | Childhood's Room
As a classic icon in the history of Japanese manga, "Doraemon" has accompanied countless people through their childhood. It not only inspires imagination about the future but also becomes a shared memory across generations. Step into Nobita’s room, with his desk, floor mat, and the time machine passage — every detail evokes the most familiar scenes from our childhood. The closet hides not just dorayaki, but fragments of memories about childhood, waiting for you to rediscover.
